H for Hellhound

A hellhound is a supernatural dog, found in mythology, folklore and fiction. A wide variety of ominous or hellish supernatural dogs occur in mythologies around the world, similar to the ubiquitous dragon. Legend says that if someone is to stare into its eyes three times or more, the person will definitely die. In cultures that associate the afterlife with fire, hellhounds may have fire-based abilities and appearance. He certainly leaves behind a trail of destruction and blue fire wherever he goes.

the Catoblepas

My entry for the Alphabeastiary Blog's challenge for the letter C...

The Catoblepas has a very heavy head and muscular neck, its body is covered with thick fur and scales..Although it is a docile creature, but when it gets angry, it's eyes can turn you into stone should you be looking at them..His breath is poisonous too...

In my entry, it was getting stalked by that panther who wanted to make it it's dinner..the Catoblepas got angry and is turning the panther into stone :)

I love taking these challenges..it is good practice for character designing and illustrations and for trying different techniques..

The Angha

So, I am part of this art challenge-The Alphabeastiary Art Challenge, where we have to create our own interpretations of fabled beasts. This one is the Angha, found in Persian literature. It is part dog, part lion and part peacock. It is said to be a very benevolent beast. The colored one is my entry.
